23rd TEXAS SCOTTISH FESTIVAL
June 5-7, 2009

The Texas Scottish Festival & Games is held at Maverick Stadium, University of Texas at Arlington, always on the first weekend in June.  The Opening Ceremony was on Friday evening with a parade of Clans and bands.  This was changed last year to avoid the hot sun at noon when it was previously held.

This is the biggest Festival & Games in the South Central Region, is always well attended and this year was no exception.  There were visitors at the MacLeod tent at all times, both Saturday and Sunday.  Little did we know that we were being graded by “undercover” spies.  We found out on Sunday afternoon when we heard the piper followed by a group of people that came toward our tent, obviously on a mission.  We were advised we had been selected to receive the award of the 2009 Best Clan Tent, which was a wonderful surprise.  We were told we won it because of our hospitality to those who visited our tent.  Larry Sears is responsible for the nice tent arrangement with plenty of space for visitors to sit, talk and partake of refreshments.  He and Gloria McLeod were the host and hostess.  This Game is where so many of our members come each year to visit and renew their memberships, which  resulted in eleven renewals this year.  One new member was Kerney McLeod from Girard, Georgia, who was visiting in the area and came to the Games.  We urged him to attend the Games in the Southeast Region and get involved.  This is a very enjoyable event for the MacLeods each year and we look forward to it each time.
