SAN ANTONIO HIGHLAND GAMES
HELOTES FAIR GROUNDS
APRIL 3-5, 2009
Several members of the Clan MacLeod Society attended the Tartan Day
observance and a memorial remembrance of the Scots who died for Texas
freedom at the Alamo on Friday evening, April 3, 2009. There was a very
impressive ceremony with Pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags, the National
Anthem lead by the Drambeauties, Highland dancing, the San Antonio Pipe Band
and Drums, and a wreath laying at the steps of the Alamo. Andrew Morrison,
Honorary British Consulate, read the Proclamation to the City of San
Antonio.
The San Antonio Games and Festival was well attended on Saturday, April 4.
Larry Sears and Gloria McLeod welcomed the many visitors to the MacLeod
tent. The Drambeauties, Jackie Sears, Sarah Piepgrass and Muffee Beaton,
entertained on one of the Stages several times during the day but had time
to drop by and visit with us in between appearances.
On Saturday night a terrific storm came through San Antonio and blew down
several of the tents at the Games. Larry had the MacLeod tent anchored down
securely so it stayed put. We had packed and covered our books and
supplies so no damage done there. It was not raining on Sunday but the
ground was wet and muddy. Our attendance was not very good because of that
so we packed up earlier than usual and headed home. We look forward to next
year and better weather conditions.
