2008 TEXAS SCOTTISH FESTIVAL & HIGHLAND GAMES

The Texas Scottish Festival & Highland Games were held in Arlington, Texas, June 6-8, 2008 at Maverick Stadium on the campus of University of Texas at Arlington.  The Opening Ceremonies were held on Friday evening where there was a Calling of the Clans and speeches welcoming everyone to the event.  This was followed by a BBQ and Ceilidh so the fun went on into the evening.

We were on the grounds ready to welcome visitors on Saturday morning when the gates opened at 9:00 o’clock.   The Clan MacLeod tent was manned by Larry Sears, our new Regional Vice President, and Gloria McLeod.  This is the time when our faithful members come to visit and many take this opportunity to renew their memberships every year.  We look forward to seeing them and catching up on what has happened in their lives since last year.  These Games provide excellent entertainers, first class athletic competitions, an array of vendors for merchandise and food.  The weather was hot, as usual, but a brisk wind blew both days that made it quite bearable.  We did have to secure the tents and displays to keep them from blowing away.   The MacLeods welcomed many visitors on Saturday and enjoyed stamping the sheets for the kids as they competed for prizes.  Sunday was not quite as busy but we enjoyed having time to visit longer with those who did come by the tent.

Those who joined or renewed their memberships were:  Don Clark, Charles Harris, David Kearney, Ken Lewis, Michael Lewis, Bob MacLeod, Jimmy & Kathy McLeod, Annette McClure and Sarita Oertling.   We welcome them and know we’ll see them at some of the other Games this Fall and for sure at the Texas Scottish Festival in 2009.
