HOUSTON SCOTTISH HIGHLAND GAMES & CELTIC FESTIVAL

The Houston Scottish Highland Games & Celtic Festival was held at the Farm and Ranch Club in Houston on May 17 & 18, 2008.   Entertainment was provided by many of the prominent Scottish bands and singers, competition in the Games was very exciting, and the bands were just as competitive.  The weather cooperated by being warm and dry but in this facility  it doesn’t matter since the events are held in a huge open barn with plenty of stadium seating for those who just want to observe.

The Clan MacLeod Society was represented by Gloria McLeod and Amy Beaton .  They had a stream of visitors both days.   Tim Simpson and Nathan Schroedter  renewed their memberships.    Nathan competes in the Athletic competitions.  The MacLeods also welcomed the winners of the dancing, piping and drumming scholarships awarded by the Dunvegan Foundation at St. Thomas Episcopal School in Houston.  The winner of the dancing scholarship was Lindsey Lubrano, piping was Andrew Coulter, and drumming was Brian Matthews.  Lindsey brought her parents and grandparents along with the Dance Directors from St. Thomas to say thanks to the Dunvegan Foundation for her scholarship award.  We congratulate these young people on their achievement.

The Dunvegan Foundation also presented cash awards to the winners of the band competition.  They were the Westminister C Band,, 3rd place; the Westminister B Band, 2nd place  and the Silver Thistle Band, 1st place.

We appreciate all those who work so hard to make this a very successful Houston Highland Game.
