29th Arkansas Scottish Festival

Lyon College, Batesville, Arkansas

The 29th Arkansas Scottish Festival was held on the grounds of Lyons College in Batesville, Arkansas, on April 20-22, 2008. The Clan MacLeod tent was manned by Tim Simpson, Arkansas Commissioner, and his wife, Sarah. They reported that the weather was excellent and the turnout was better than many in the past. Patricia Snowden, a long time member, took this opportunity to renew her membership and visit with others at the MacLeod tent.

The MacCrimmon Quaich was awarded to Nathaniel Harvey from Wichita, Kansas, at the Awards Ceremony by Tim Simpson. Nathaniel is the Pipe Major of the Wichita Pipe Band and was also the winner of the MacCrimmon Quaich last year, He was very much appreciative to have won it for the second time.

The winner of the Jack and Sue Stephens Scholarship for piping, established by them through the Dunvegan Foundation, was Cody Austin Wagnon, a Junior from Sand Springs, Oklahoma. The winner of the Agnes McLeod Stephens Scholarship, established also through the Dunvegan Foundation by Jack and Sue Stephens in honor of his mother, was John Coates, also a piper. We congratulate these young students who work so hard to earn these awards.

We look forward to this outstanding Festival in 2009.

Respectfully submitted,
Gloria McLeod
