The 21st Annual Texas Scottish Festival & Highland Games

The Opening Ceremonies of the Texas Scottish Festival & Highland Games were held at Maverick Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Friday evening, June 1, 2007, which was a change from the usual opening ceremonies at noon on Saturday under the boiling Texas sun.  This change was welcomed by the many participating attendees, Clans and entertainers.  The Clan MacLeod group was led onto the field by RVP Ross McCaskill, Commissioners Gerald MacLeod and Douglas Beaton carrying the very colorful flags and banners of Clan MacLeod.

The Clan tents and vendors were open and ready for business early on Saturday morning and when the gates opened at nine o’clock, the crowds came.  The MacLeod tent was a popular gathering place for MacLeods, Septs and friends of MacLeods.  The large tent afforded plenty of room for visiting, eating and getting out of the hot sun.  Doug Beaton brought his outdoor grill and cooked turkey legs, sausage, and hot dogs.  The day was filled with the sounds of pipes and drums; music coming from the four entertainment tents, and the grunts and groans of the athletes as they competed on the Athletic Field.

Sunday morning dawned with a hard rain and wind storm that damaged some of the not so well anchored tents but the MacLeod tent Held Fast!  The sun appeared and we were ready for business when the gates opened for the Kirkin’ of the Tartan at ten o’clock.  The grounds were soggy and that may have discouraged some folks from attending but the MacLeod tent had a steady stream of visitors all day.

Those manning the Clan MacLeod tent were Ross McCaskill, Gerald MacLeod, Douglas Beaton, and Gloria McLeod.  Those who came and renewed their memberships were Jim and Kathy McLeod, Ken Lewis, Robert B. MacLeod, Don Clark, Lou McLeod, David Cooper, Mary Jo McClure and Helen Eisenhower.  New members were Raymond McCabe, Grace Hudnall, Michael Lewis, John Morris, Terry Mabry and Robert Brock.   We always look forward to seeing those members who are so faithful to come every year, renew their membership and  visit for a while.  We also welcome the new members and take that opportunity to acquaint them with the Clan MacLeod Society, genealogy, history, our website and give them literature.

A great time was had by all!
