San Antonio Celtic Festival and Highland Games

The San Antonio Highland Games were held March 31-April 1, 2007 northwest of San Antonio on the Helotes Festival Grounds.  The Games were preceded on Friday evening with a very impressive Tartan Day Ceremony held at the Alamo in downtown San Antonio.  The Clan MacLeod Society was represented by Larry Sears, past RVP; Sia Beaton, Texas Coordinator on the National Tartan Day Committee, and Gloria McLeod, National CMS Publicist.  These individuals and others were honored to participate in the wreath laying ceremony for those Scots who died at the Alamo fighting for Texas Independence in 1835.  The Drambeauties, Muffee Beaton, Sarah Piepgrass and Jackie Sears, entertained with a medley of songs.  The Highland Games were very well attended on Saturday and Sunday and the Clan MacLeod tent was a popular place to gather for food and refreshments.  Phillip Lovelady was welcomed as a new member of the Clan MacLeod Society.  Sean McCabe, a recent new member of the Society and his friend, Caleb Roberson, visited both days.  They are soldiers presently stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, but will soon return to Iraq for their third deployment.   Those officiating at the Clan MacLeod tent were Doug Beaton, Larry Sears, and Gloria McLeod.  The Clan MacLeod tent was awarded a prize trophy for Best Clan Tent Runner Up.
