36th Annual Houston Scottish Highland Games and Celtic Festival

The Houston Scottish Highland Games and Celtic Festival was held May 11-13, 2007 at the Farm and Ranch Club in Houston, Texas.  The competitions started at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and continued throughout the day.  The Clan MacLeod tent was manned by Don Mack and Kathrine McLeod, and Doug Beaton.   Attendance was very good and many found their way to the MacLeod tent to visit and enjoy the hospitality they always find there.  Kathrine McLeod presented the awards to the winner of the Mini-Band Competition, and to the recipients of the Piping, Drumming and Dancing scholarships awarded each year to the St. Thomas Episcopal School from the Dunvegan Foundation.  The winner of the Mini-Band competition was the St. Thomas Episcopal School Band A consisting of James Millikan, Ben Buckner, James Wakeland, Layne Wiesendanger, Brian Mathews, James Lawrence, and Vince Boisaubin.  John Richter was awarded the Piping Scholarship; Ben Duran the Drumming Scholarship and Carla Gardner, a repeat winner of the Dancing Scholarship.  Two new members of the Clan MacLeod Society for the day were Jennifer Walker, and Denise McCaskill Walker.

Sunday continued with constant entertainment by well known Scottish singers and bands, sheepherding demonstrations, harp competition, children’s athletics, shortbread contest and genealogy workshops.  Again, the MacLeod tent was a preferred meeting place and was manned by Doug Beaton and Gloria McLeod, who could not be there on Saturday.  Jim Stimson took advantage of the three year membership, Nathan Schroedter renewed his membership, and other new members were Joanne M. Beaton, William H. McClure and Bruce & Donna McCaskill.  We welcome these new and renewed members to the Clan MacLeod Society USA family.  We will look forward to seeing them at the next gathering.
