The sun rose above the Tulsa skyline as the 2006 Oklahoma
Scottish Festival got underway. The crowds came streaming in slowly, making
their way to the tents sporting their surnames. Clan MacLeod was in place by
8:00 (with the games starting at 10:00). The MacLeod tent is always a magnet,
not only because of its numerous septs (boldly displayed on the banner), its
illustrious history, its fantasy affiliation with the Highlander motion picture
and T.V. series, but also the friendly, welcoming attitude of its Commissioner,
not only with the public, but with the other clans as well. Like last year, we
ran a drawing of Highlander merchandise, with many curiosity seekers coming by.
Despite the extreme heat (somewhere in the 90s), the day went well, with several
people commenting on the organized efficiency of the MacLeod tent. One can’t
help agreeing when people are interested in the best clan around! Sunday was
pretty much a shutout, with endless rain putting a damper on the fun. Will
Rogers once said “If you don’t like the weather in Oklahoma, wait a minute and
it’ll change.” I think Saturday would have pleased him greatly.
