Houston Scottish Highland Games and Celtic Festival
The Houston Highland Games and Festival was held at the
Farm and Ranch Club in Houston on May 12-14, 2006. Don Mack and Kathrine
McLeod, Robert Scott MacLeod, Douglas Beaton, Larry Sears and Gloria McLeod were on hand to
greet the visitors to the Clan MacLeod and there was a steady stream of them
each day. New members to the Society were William C. Hoffman, Jr., and Eric Beaton. Nathan Schroedter renewed his membership and also competed in the
Athletics.
Kathrine McLeod presented the winners of the Mini-Band
Challenge their awards as follows: First Place – St. Thomas Episcopal “Clan
MacRae Society” Band; Second Place – Silver Thistle, and Third Place –
Westminster #1. The St. Thomas band consisted of Pipers - Matthew Drecun, Sean
Windsor, Michael Kenny and Ben Buckner; Bass Drummer - James Lawrence; Snare
Drummers - Zach Goodrick and Brian Matthews. Doug Beaton presented the Dunvegan
Trophy to these deserving young men.
This is the 35th anniversary of the Houston
Highland Games and it continues to be a success with a full schedule of men’s
athletics, as well as the Scottish dance and band competitions. We look forward
to the events of 2007.
