| This was the second year the Macleod’s participated in the New
York City Tartan Day Parade. The parade is the largest in the county and
the crowds were huge, waving Scottish flags and cheering. We marched up
the Avenue of the Americas (6th Ave.) in Manhattan, starting
at 45th near Times Square and ended up at the south end of
Central Park. We marched passed such landmarks as the Radio City Music
Hall and Carnegie Hall.

| This year the “Scottish God” was shining on us. Last year the
weather was inclement. It was a wonderful turn out of about thirty five
enthusiastic MacLeod’s. Clan MacLeod had the second largest Clan to
march in the parade. The largest Clan was the Campbell’s. I am sure we
can out do the Campbell’s next year. There were over twenty Clans and
Societies and more than forty Pipe Bands. We marched behind the “Shamrock and Thistle Pipe and Drum Band” from New Jersey dressed in the yellow dress MacLeod of Lewis (www.shamrockandthistle.com). The pipe bands musical arrangements brought energy to our group. The Clan and the pipe band honored our new Chief Hugh by wearing yellow arm bands with the words “NYC 2007 Welcome to Chief Hugh MacLeod”. |
| After the parade a good time was had by all socializing, eating and drinking at the “Old Castle Restaurant” located at the end of the parade route. We had MacLeod’s traveling from Washington DC, New Jersey, Long Island, Staten Island, Boston and Chicago as well as New York City. It was a great day for Clan MacLeod. We hope to have even more MacLeods join us next year. |
