2007 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

OF THE CLAN MACLEOD SOCIETY

The Annual General Meeting of the Clan MacLeod Society, USA, Inc., was held on August 10, 2007, at the Sheraton Denver Tech Center Hotel in Englewood, Colorado.  The well organized  events were arranged by Judy Wisehart, Regional Vice President of the Southwest Region.

The business meeting was under the direction of President Bill C. MacLeod and reports were given by each of the officers.  Treasurer Richard A. MacLeod was unable to attend the meeting but he sent his report.  Through his efforts and others, the 501(c)3 for the Clan MacLeod Society, USA, Inc., was approved by the IRS so that contributions to the Society are now deductible as charitable contributions as well as expenses incurred on behalf of the Society.  New Clan MacLeod brochures will be prepared to include information about Chief Hugh MacLeod of MacLeod who has inherited the title following the death of Chief John MacLeod of MacLeod.  There will be a revision in the membership dues that will be discussed and voted on at the meeting in Alexandria in December.  The names of the Trustees of the Dunvegan Foundation were read and introduced at the meeting.  The newly elected Council members were announced as follows:  President, John B. MacLeod; Vice President John N. MacLeod; Secretary, Anne L. MacLeod; Treasurer, Richard A. MacLeod; Counsel, John MacLeod Tutterow; Newsletter Editor, Jay McClure; Internet Manager, William G. MacLeod; Culture, Norman Livermore; Chaplain, Rev. James A. McLeod; Migration Director, Dixie McCaskill Lewis; RVP Advisor, Gordon Lewis; Publicist/Recording Secretary, Judy MacLeod; Nomination Chair, Don Mack McLeod.  Regional Vice Presidents are Dr. Donald A. MacLeod, New England; Robert E. MacLeod, Northeast; Stephen A. MacLeod, Mid-Atlantic; W. Franklin Wyatt, III, Carolinas; Jack Lewis, Gulf Central; Arthur J. Nicol, Upper Midwest; Weeden Nichols, Missouri Valley; Judy McClure Wisehart, Southwest; David MacLeod, Pacific; Robert J. MacLeod, Great Lakes; Ross E. McCaskill, South Central.  The RVP positions are vacant in the Southeast and Northwest Regions.

Educational seminars were held on Heraldry and Sept names, Ulster Scots and Scottish genealogy. The keynote speaker at the Stanley R. McLeod Memorial Lecture was Paul Kilburn who spoke on “The Second Great Migration: Scots-Irish to America.”   Videos were shown of the 2006 Parliament and a travelogue of Skye, Lewis and Harris.  There were demonstrations of Highland Dancing and for children there were crafts, stories and dancing.  A side trip was made to the Red Rock Amphitheater and to the Buffalo Bill Cody Museum and burial place.  The Friday night banquet and Saturday night Ceilidh were very enjoyable.  The Clansman of the Year was awarded to Bob MacLeod of New York, RVP of the Northeast Region.  We regret that Bob was unable to be at the meeting to receive the award in person.

Transportation was provided on Saturday and Sunday to the Colorado Scottish Festival and Rocky Mountain Highland Games in nearby Highlands Ranch, Colorado, where lunch was also provided.   Clan MacLeod was the Honored Clan at this event.  Judy and officers of the Clan MacLeod were  presented with a Plaque and a bottle of wine by Games officials to commemorate this recognition.
